Don Hutchison blasts West Ham United after what he saw in the draw v Everton – ‘Pensioner’

Don Hutchison has offered his brutal verdict on West Ham United after the side played “pensioner” football in the 0-0 draw against Everton.

The Hammers welcomed Everton to the London Stadium on Saturday [9 November] with Julen Lopetegui all too aware of what the result could mean for his future in East London.

However, the hosts failed to register a single shot on target on the day, and Hutchison, a former West Ham and Everton player, summed up the performance in a quick review via his X account [9 November].

He said: “West Ham play pensioner / walking football and Everton players are better than where they are in the Lge table….”

Is this the end for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United?

While all the attention was on what would happen if Lopetegui lost heading into the clash in East London, no sceptics speculated what could happen if they drew the match.

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that the Irons board would stick by the under-fire boss regardless of the result at the London Stadium, however, the supporters will undoubtedly feel disgruntled following another poor showing from the players.

Furthermore, talkSPORT revealed on Tuesday [5 November] that several key West Ham stars have become dissatisfied with the Spaniard’s methods, and if any supporter believed the reports to be false, the performance against Everton tells you all you need to know.

Crysencio Summerville is the only player who can leave the pitch with his head held high. The 23-year-old atoned for his misplaced pass in the first half by tracking back and producing a last-ditch tackle to deny Abdoulaye Doucoure in a show of work ethic that put his teammates to shame.

The international break could not be more justly timed for the Hammers but all the faith in Lopetegui has dissipated, not many left in East London will still believe he has what it takes to find a way to resurrect the side over the two-week hiatus from club football.

Nevertheless, it is dark times for West Ham United Football Club, and it seems the only way to win back the supporters is to admit the Lopetegui experiment was a resounding failure – send him packing – and use the break to appoint someone worthy of representing this football club.
