Doctor issues Lucas Paqueta injury news ahead of West Ham United v Sheffield United

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Ham...

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta is expected to be out of action for the next couple of weeks, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert noticed the club’s physios putting ice on his calf and he has even mooted a muscle rupture as the worst-case scenario.

The Hammers are set to take on Sheffield United on Sunday, 21 January for which the Brazil international will not be available.

Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said:

Looked to be his calf based on where the physios placed ice.

If it’s a muscular injury, the best case is calf tightness which is Grade O and the worst case is a muscle rupture which is Grade 4.

The new demands on the wings certainly could play a role as it tends to be a different demand on the body.

He appears to be out for a couple of weeks.

David Moyes will be hoping that Paqueta returns to action quickly as he’s been one of their best players this season.

Despite a failed move to Manchester City in the summer, he’s not let it get to him and has carried on from where he left off in May 2023.

The 26-year-old has scored two goals and provided five assists in 18 Premier League appearances this term.

In other West Ham news, a £50m FFP update has emerged on a midfielder linked with a move to the London Stadium.
