Doctor details fitness consequences to many West Ham United players after David Ornstein update
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Ham...
A number of West Ham players may have faced fitness issues after there was a sickness bug behind the scenes, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
David Ornstein reported on 10 December that a number of players had been impacted along with David Moyes, who felt unwell.
The injury expert believes that the best way to reduce the spread is by breaking the circuit, isolation or even the usage of masks.
Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said: “Things can escalate quite quickly, especially with how much time players and staff spend together and in relatively close quarters.
“The way to reduce them is by breaking the circuit through isolation, hygiene and other measures such as masks as well.
“The short-term ramifications can obviously be players missing matches and long-term – depending on severity – can lead to players losing fitness and rhythm if they’re unable to participate in strength and conditioning and training.“

Emerson and Edson Alvarez were back in the starting eleven against Wolves so they do not appear to have been severely impacted.
Pablo Fornals was on the bench and came off in the second half so perhaps the issue has been dealt with well behind the scenes.
It remains to be seen if Alvarez being taken off in the second half had anything to do with illness or it was just a tactical decision by Moyes.
In other West Ham news, the highest source at the Hammers has issued an update on a 2023 award winner to replace David Moyes as sack update emerges.
