Dion Dublin waxes lyrical about West Ham United feat live on BBC Sport amid David Moyes verdict

Dion Dublin believes West Ham United have had an “outstanding” season despite their Premier League struggles due to the fact they have reached the Europa Conference League final.

The Hammers finished the Premier League season in 14th position after their 2-1 defeat against Leicester City on Sunday (28 May), however, David Moyes rung the changes to his starting lineup with one eye on the European final against Fiorentina (7 June).

Speaking live on BBC Sport’s Final Score, Dublin waxed lyrical about the “brilliant” job of the Scot at the London Stadium this term and also laid down a prediction for the upcoming final against the Italian club.

“Mr Moyes has been brilliant,” he said. [28 May, 18:53]

“Brilliant to get them where they need to be, the players have responded, and they have a lot of quality.

“West Ham haven’t had the season they wanted, in regards of the quality of football that they have played, I think there is plenty more to come from West Ham, in my opinion.

“But getting to a final of a European competition for West Ham is an outstanding season, and I fancy them.”

History makers?

The clash against the Foxes was never the match that West Ham United fans would have cared about, with thoughts now firmly set on the Europa Conference League final and an opportunity to get the club’s first silverware since 1980.

Most importantly for the Hammers, all of their key players came through the clash unscathed.

If the likes of Declan Rice or Lucas Paqueta had come down with serious injuries, this could well have derailed their plans for the European final.

However, as has become apparent over the course of the season, Moyes used his squad extremely well once again versus Leicester City, resting the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek and ensuring others were given a crucial runout.

If the Hammers manage to secure silverware in the upcoming final, Dublin’s verdict on the season as a whole would be bang on the money.

It hasn’t been pretty at times, but Moyes has a chance to finish the season in style.
