Di Canio urges West Ham to be careful in pursuit of Gianluca Scamacca
West Ham United legend Paolo Di Canio has questioned his former club’s potential move to sign Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca.
The Hammers have been in the market to sign a player who can bolster the attacking unit ahead of the next campaign.
For this reason, the Irons have been linked with a number of players including Scamacca but are facing competition from a number of other clubs in Europe.

Di Canio, while talking to Sky Sports as quoted by Calciomercato, suggested that playing in England can be extremely challenging for players and used Sébastien Haller’s example to clear the point.
“It is not easy to be a protagonist in the Premier League,” he said. “It is a tough championship. Haller reminds me, who at Eintracht scored a goal every two games and at West Ham he struggled.
“He is not a Lukaku. Then at West Ham there is Antonio who is a totem pole. I don’t know if he will be the owner right away.”
Lack of goals
During the last season, West Ham manager David Moyes rued the lack of goals within his side after his team were knocked out of the Europa League semi-finals against Eintracht Frankfurt.
As they are participating in European competition once again, they cannot go into another season with just one striker.
Michael Antonio, as recognizable as he is, does not have the same powers as he had previously because of his injury concerns.

Therefore, it is important for the Hammers to get their striker position sorted and Scamacca could be that player.
However, his effectiveness while playing in England will remain a question that not many will be able to answer, despite his very impressive numbers in the Serie A.
In the last season, Italy international scored 16 goals and had an average rating of 6.82, according to Whoscored.
Moreover, he averaged 2.2 shots, 0.7 key passes, and 0.5 long balls per game. The 23-year-old also had a 74% pass completion rate.
