Dharmesh Sheth: West Ham United bid for Lille midfielder Amadou Onana rejected

Lille have rejected another bid from West Ham for their midfielder Amadou Onana, as per Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist wrote on Twitter on 11 July that the Hammers have made their second bid in the region of £25m (30 million Euros) for the highly-rated young midfielder.

The offer has been rejected immediately. Seth adds that the Hammers are now exploring other options.

Sheth wrote on Twitter: “Had it confirmed West Ham United have had a second bid rejected by Lille for midfielder Amadou Onana. The offer was believed to be around €30m. While West Ham haven’t closed the door on pursuing the player, it is thought they are looking at other options.”

Difficult

Bolstering the midfield is a priority for David Moyes this summer. The Hammers have already added Flynn Downes from Swansea, but the club is looking at more depth and quality in midfield.

With Mark Noble having retired and Alex Kral returning to Spartak Moscow, Moyes understands the importance of adding a quality player in midfield.

Onana would have been a fantastic signing for the club. He is a raw talent but very powerful and energetic.

The Belgium international is strong with both feet, and he is a typical box-to-box midfielder.

West Ham

He is good at tackles and understands the game really well. On top of that, he is a brilliant passer of the ball as well, recording a completion rate of 84% (Who Scored) last season.

The youngster is a special talent, and the Hammers are likely to give another shot to sign him. However, they need to get close to Lille’s asking price.

Claret and Hugh reported on July 11 that Lille could demand as much as €68 million (£57 million) for the young midfielder, and the amount looks a bit too high for West Ham’s liking.
