Dharmesh Sheth shares verdict on David Moyes sack decision at West Ham United

Dharmesh Sheth believes West Ham need to make a firm decision on David Moyes’ future at the club and the direction they wish to go in, claiming it would be harsh to let him go.

The Sky Sports reporter suggested that the Hammers will need to question what they want to do, whether they want Moyes to work alongside Tim Steidten, or whether they want to let his contract expire in the summer.

Sheth also claimed it feels harsh to be talking about letting Moyes leave after what he achieved with the club last season, winning the Europa Conference League in Prague.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on 6 November, Sheth questioned: “What do they want to do? Where do they want to go? Do they want David Moyes to stay and thereby sign a brand new contract and then work alongside Tim Steidten and compromise on where they need to strengthen particularly in recruitment?

“Or do they say, ‘right David Moyes, it’s up in the summer, we’re going to move in a new direction now’. And then Tim Steidten and his expertise come to bear not only with recruitment but also with managerial selection, as well.

“And maybe there would be a manager that comes into West Ham that aligns more with Tim Steidten. It’s so harsh even talking about what’s going to happen with David Moyes considering what he’s achieved at West Ham United.

“Look, winning that first trophy, that first major trophy in 43 years, when they won the Europa Conference League. That was an incredible moment, an incredible night.”

It will be a big call to make

One way or another, the directors at West Ham have got a big decision to make in the coming months. Either they part company with the man who won them their first trophy in over 40 years, or they continue with what is currently viewed as a disappointing spell.

The real decision is of course more nuanced than that. It’s a question of a style of play, the possibility of a new direction for the club, and the behind-the-scenes relationships that have been questioned on multiple occasions since the arrival of Steidten.

By leaving the call until later in the season, they are affording themselves time as well as Moyes, seeing how things play out in the context of their season. If there is a marked improvement in results, who’s to say the boss wouldn’t be offered a new deal?

Take last season for example, a difficult spell in the Premier League led to narrowly avoiding the battle against relegation, but European silverware success meant it was the Hammers’ most successful season in years. We’ll have to wait and see.
