Dharmesh Sheth shares damning view on West Ham United ace Issa Diop amid major transfer reports

Dharmesh Sheth has shared his concerns for West Ham United defender Issa Diop amid the latest transfer news out of the London Stadium.

Potential Irons’ new boy, Nayef Aguerd, has travelled from France to complete his medical, according to a report by the Daily Star.

David Moyes was desperate for a centre-back during the 2021/22 campaign amid his injury crisis but Sheth has outlined the implications it might have on the current squad ahead of 2022/23.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If and when Aguerd does join, I just wonder what that would mean to the future of Issa Diop because he was being used as cover for the other two defenders as it stood.

“If they bring in someone for big money, he’d be expected to play straight away. So, I just wonder whether Diop would be surplus to requirements.”

Brutal.

Diop has been the player on everybody’s mind amid the Hammers’ pursuit of a centre-back ahead of next season.

Even with Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma out injured for large parts of the season last year – the 25-year-old only managed 13 Premier League appearances.

Make no mistake, Craig Dawson was excellent, but it says a lot when Moyes would rather back a 32-year-old who joined the club as backup ahead of the Frenchman.

It is a real shame because Diop looked to have such a bright future when he initially joined the London Stadium outfit in 2018 but his Irons career has gone completely down the pan.

A huge decision needs to be made on the defender because the east Londoners simply can’t afford passengers in the squad.

Everybody needs to be playing their part and justifying their wage as the club looks to maintain the momentum gained over the last couple of seasons – is Diop going to do that next year?
