Dharmesh Sheth: Craig Dawson already has house near Wolves with West Ham United exit on the cards

Craig Dawson has a house in the Midlands and West Ham will allow him to leave in the January transfer window amid interest from Wolves, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist (transfer live blog, 10 January, 19.29) shared that the Hammers would only let him join Wolves if they can sign a replacement.

Dawson has got only six months left on his current contract and Wolves want to sign the 32-year-old permanently having missed out on him in the summer.

West Ham

“Wolves are interested in signing West Ham defender Craig Dawson on a permanent deal. He’s got six months left on his contract,” said Sheth on The Transfer Show, as relayed by Sky Sports live blog.

“Wolves tried to sign him in the summer, West Ham would only let that deal happen if they could bring in a replacement.

“The information I have is West Ham would allow Dawson to leave again, he has a house in the midlands, but ideally they would like to bring in a replacement to reinforce that area.

“He’s started their last six Premier League games and this Saturday it’s Wolves vs West Ham!”

Makes sense

Dawson initially joined the Hammers on loan from Watford in 2020, and later the move was made permanent. He has made 87 appearances for the club and has been regular this season as well.

He was outstanding last season under David Moyes and played a pivotal role during the absence of Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma through injuries.

West Ham

The former West Brom defender has been a terrific player for the Hammers and the fans will be sad to see him go. But he wants to stay close to his family, and therefore a move away from West Ham in January is definitely possible.

Moyes does have options in the form of Nayef Aguerd, Ogbonna, Zouma and Thilo Kehrer even if Dawson departs, but he would love to have a proper replacement signed before he can sanction his exit.

Ideally, the Hammers should look to get someone on a temporary deal. It will be interesting to see how things shape up in the next few days, but certainly, Dawson could leave anytime during this window.
