Dermot Gallagher shares verdict on West Ham United incident v Manchester United
Former FIFA referee Dermot Gallagher has shared his verdict on Sky Sports regarding a foul made by West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca.
The Hammers striker was already booked when he made a high boot challenge on Lisandro Martinez.
Gallagher has explained why Scamacca “got away with it”, saying the challenge was not malicious.
“I think he got away with it because it’s an on-field decision. The referee decides not a foul only, not a yellow card. It’s not the worst foul in the world. VAR can’t intervene,” said Gallagher on Sky Sports.

It wasn’t an intentional foul nor was it malicious from Scamacca.
Having said that the standards of referring in the Premier League and especially the use of VAR has been questioned time and again.
In this case, it appears to be the right decision, and no way Scamacca could be shown a red card.
It was West Ham’s second Premier League defeat in their last three matches, both of them have come away from home.

The Hammers find themselves 13th in the league table, and that is not where they should be. Given the squad they have, they should be close to the top six.
The major reason is their poor away form. They have managed only one win away from home. They drew once and lost five times. If this trend continues, they will never be able to close the gap with other teams at the top.
This is becoming a worrying trend under David Moyes. The Hammers should play with more intensity and a positive outlook when they’re away from home.
