Dermot Gallagher reacts to West Ham controversy in Southampton draw
West Ham frustrated fans as they drew 1-1 at home to Southampton, who were already relegated from the Premier League.
Graham Potter’s side have disappointed all season, and facing a relegated side at home should have given them the opportunity to win and boost the low morale around the club.
However, they put in an underwhelming display as they drew 1-1, with the visitors equalising in the final minutes, but the scoreline could have been different.
West Ham saw a goal disallowed early on in the second half, and former referee Dermot Gallagher has now given his verdict on the incident.

West Ham goal v Southampton was rightfully disallowed
West Ham took the lead at the start of the second half through Jarrod Bowen, but they thought they had doubled this a few minutes later.
The Hammers fired in a corner, and Saints’ goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale misjudged the flight of the ball, allowing Niclas Fullkrug to help bundle the ball in.
However, the goal was instantly chalked off as it was deemed that Ramsdale was fouled as he missed the ball in the air.

West Ham | 9 | 9 | 15 | 36 |
Gallagher has now told Sky Sports News (21 April, 11.26am) that the right decision was made as it was a foul on Ramsdale.
“He’s trying to catch it. You only have to move his arm slightly. It’s a foul,” he stated of the incident.

West Ham should have beaten Southampton
West Ham’s draw with Southampton keep them 17th in the Premier League, but the Hammers are not in danger of relegation.
However, they are close enough to Wolves, Tottenham and Manchester United to be able to overtake them in the table with a few positive results.
West Ham were poor against Southampton, with the visiting side creating the better opportunities and Hammers target Kyle Walker-Peters impressing at right-back.
Potter’s side were flat and complacent, and did not create much after the disallowed goal, which eventually allowed Southampton to equalise and further questions to be raised about their performances as a whole.
West Ham fans are now looking forward to the season ending, and for big changes in the summer transfer window to correct what has been their worst campaign in recent years.
