Dejan Lovren would be smart signing for West Ham
West Ham are keeping close tabs on Dejan Lovren and he would be a smart signing for the Hammers.
According to a recent report from Claret and Hugh, the Hammers are checking out the possibility of signing the 32-year-old centre-back who currently plays for Russian outfit Zenit Saint Petersburg.
With Russia currently engaged in war with Ukraine, FIFA have said that clubs in other countries can sign up to two players that play for clubs residing in Russia or Ukraine outside of the transfer window.
The Hammers are looking at a short-term deal where they may need to just pay his wages.
The defence is one area that needs bolstering. Issa Diop has impressed in recent games, and he is likely to form a strong partnership with Kurt Zouma at the heart of the defence going forward.
With Angelo Ogbonna out injured and could take more time to recover due to his age, Moyes needs another player alongside Craig Dawson as a reliable back up option.
Step up, Lovren, a player who has got a wealth of Premier League and European experience.
He was a member of the side that won the Champions League title with Liverpool and has been part of some unforgettable matches involved with the Reds.
Lovren scored the winner against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League tie at Anfield, and he could be tempted to return to the Premier League.
His age can be a concern, but surely Moyes would use him sparingly, mainly as a back-up. He is strong in the air and good with passing. It’s a bargain, low-risk deal, and the Hammers should for it.
