Dean Windass: David Moyes would convince Ross Barkley to join West Ham
West Ham United have been linked with Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley, and Dean Windass reckons a reunion with David Moyes could happen.
According to the Telegraph, the Hammers could emerge as a realistic option for the England international next season in a possible loan deal, with boss Moyes understood to remain a big fan.
Barkley is out of favour at Chelsea and is expected to spend next season away from Stamford Bridge.
Hull City legend Windass believes the 27-year-old could be perfect for West Ham as Jesse Lingard’s perfect replacement.
“Now Moyes has stayed, that could entice him,” the former striker told Football FanCast.
“He would be a great fit for West Ham now Jesse Lingard’s probably not going to return – Ross is a number 10 in my opinion, so I think that would be a great fit for West Ham.”
A huge risk
West Ham would love to have Lingard back at the London Stadium permanently after that impressive six-month loan spell, but it remains to be seen whether Manchester United would let go.
We really could do with the quality of the England international in the final third, but should that become impossible, a loan move for Barkley could make sense.
It is a great gamble of course given how his Aston Villa season-long loan petered out.
However, the fact that not many of us saw Lingard impressing when he first joined us speaks volumes.
Moyes brought out the best in the Man Utd academy graduate and could reproduce the magic with Barkley.
The former Everton man has it in him, scoring thrice and assisting once in his first 10 games for Villa before an injury derailed his season.
Moyes knows the midfielder from their time together at Everton, and a reunion could be all he needs to get his career back on track.
A loan move could work, and the Hammers should not hesitate to take this gamble.
