Dean Jones reports West Ham want to sign Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor

West Ham United are interested in making a move for Burnley defender Charlie Taylor in the summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Hammers have been in the market to sign a defender, especially a left-back before the start of the next season.

Jones, while talking to Give Me Sport, shared that Taylor is one of the names being considered at the London Stadium to strengthen the full-back department.

“We know West Ham are looking for fresh options on the left side of defence,” he said. “And I’m told they have real interest in Burnley’s Charlie Taylor.

“It’s an especially interesting one to crop up because Burnley have been looking to sign a left-back on loan.”

Technical Player

Even though Taylor prefers to play as a left-back, he can also play as a third defender at the back if David Moyes shifts to a back three.

Therefore, we can say that the former Leeds United man can become a crucial player in case the Hammers have an injury crisis in the middle of the season.

In the 2021-22 Premier League season, the defender played 31 Premier League games for Burnley. He started 30 of those games, provided three assists in the process and enjoyed an average rating of 6.82, according to Whoscored.

Moreover, the former England U19 international averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, and 2.3 clearances per game to go with an average of 0.7 key passes and a pass completion rate of 71.1%.

At a time when the Irons are desperate to have a cover for Aaron Cresswell, who is 32 years old now, Taylor might not prove to be a long-term replacement but can definitely be someone who can be relied upon and can do a job for a considerable period of time, considering he is still 28.

Also, his arrival will be cheaper compared to many other options which makes him an ideal fit as well.
