Dean Jones: Newcastle will look to sign Declan Rice
Newcastle United will look to sign Declan Rice when he looks to leave West Ham United, according to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones.
The Magpies’ new billionaire owners have plans to oversee major squad changes next summer, and they are keeping tabs on the England international midfielder, 22, and his Borussia Dortmund counterpart Jude Bellingham.
Newcastle will look to be involved in the conversations that happen around Rice going forward, and that could be more bad news for the Hammers.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all well-known suitors of the West Ham ace, and it is widely believed that he has plans to leave the London Stadium for a side offering regular Champions League football and a chance to win major trophies.
Newcastle are far from being any of that at the moment, but they could soon be challenging the bigwigs in the Premier League and Europe in a few seasons from now.
Their Saudi owners have more than enough cash to splash, and the world’s wealthiest owners surely have what it takes to lure Rice to Tyneside as they look to complete a huge project.
Whether the Hammers man will be keen to join the new assemblage of stars Newcastle are lining up remains to be seen, but the Toons have the means to meet West Ham’s £100million asking price and also comfortably double his wages.
It will be interesting to see how things go going forward, but holding on to Rice could be about to become more difficult for David Moyes if the new moneybags come calling.
In other West Ham news, Andy Goldstein reckons PL moneybags could target Hammers ace instead of Rice.
