Dean Jones moots ‘massive risk’ for West Ham United amid David Moyes contract news

Dean Jones has claimed it would have been a massive risk for West Ham to part company with David Moyes and search for a new manager in the summer.

The former Eurosport journalist claimed it would be difficult for any new boss to take West Ham to another level following the success of Moyes’ spell in East London.

This comes following reports that the boss will sign a contract extension at the London Stadium when it had initially been expected that he would leave at the end of his currewnt deal. [The Guardian, 29 December]

Jones was speaking to GIVEMESPORT [29 December], as he reported: “I think it is almost certain we will see Moyes sign a new contract at West Ham in the new year now.

“It would be a massive risk to believe you can move on from this moment and find a manager that can take you to the next level. I believe the board will be looking back at 2023 and realising that it has been pretty amazing.

“A European trophy, a huge player sale that has generated big money, and continued good league form that has them in the top six. I’m not sure it gets much better than that.”

Moyes has earned a new deal

Speculation had been ruling all season about the future of Moyes at West Ham, and at one stage it even appeared he may be relieved of his duties before the end of his deal, but he has turned things around and once more proved he is the right man for the job.

If the Europa Conference League victory, followed by having topped their Europa League group this season, wasn’t enough to prove that he can get the best out of this team, a sixth-placed Premier League position going into the new year should be more than enough evidence.

West Ham

Back-to-back wins against Manchester United and Arsenal show that his team can mix it with the biggest and best the country has to offer, and there appears to be no better man to lead the club forward than Moyes.

Jones is right, for West Ham to part company with the boss while he is consistently proving he can get results would be a huge risk, despite frustrations over the style of play, and he has more than earned their trust.

In other West Ham news, the club were at risk of a large FFP breach.
