David Sullivan to seal West Ham United masterstroke by hiring Paulo Fonseca after Sky Sports update

West Ham United are showing an interest in out-of-contract Lille manager Paulo Fonseca who could prove to be a popular option to replace David Moyes.

Sky Sports reported on Tuesday (24 April) that Julen Lopetegui and Fonseca are “under serious consideration” by the club.

They also confirmed that his deal with the Ligue 1 outfit runs out in the summer so could prove to be available.

Given his record with Lille and the style of football he opts to play, he could be an option that Hammers fans can get behind.

Although Lille didn’t progress, their performance against Aston Villa in the Conference League was highly praised by Julien Laurens on X.

He said: “Lille can be so proud! They played so well over the two legs and came so close to knock out the 4th best team in the Premier League. Hard to take but so impressed by them and how Paulo Fonseca schooled Unai Emery tactically tonight again.”

Should West Ham United hire Paulo Fonseca?

With Moyes set to depart the London Stadium when his contract expires in the summer, there will be a need for a new face in the dugout.

The demand from fans has been a more exciting style of football which is enjoyable to watch and that garners positive results.

This didn’t quite work out in the Conference League as his side were knocked out by Aston Villa and some Emi Martinez penalty antics.

Fonseca prefers to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and wants his team to control possession where he can. He has also been known to use a 3-4-3 depending on opposition.

Against Villa, his side had more possession which they translated into chances. According to FotMob, they had 52 per cent possession which equated to two big chances.

This appointment may prove to be more popular, due to his style of play, compared to someone like Lopetegui.
