David Sullivan stance on Graham Potter emerges in West Ham United job update

David Sullivan may have doubts about hiring Graham Potter as a possible replacement for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United, according to Michael Hincks.

Lopetegui is under immense pressure at the London Stadium as the Irons sit fourteenth in the Premier League with 12 points after 11 games.

Writing in The i on 19 November, Hincks singled out Potter as an “obvious” replacement for Lopetegui in East London but suggested that Sullivan may not be sold on the Englishman.

“At West Ham, Lopetegui’s lacklustre start smacks of a club who know they have chosen the wrong path but remain hesitant to admit it, having taken the big decision to move on from David Moyes’ brand of football – only to circle right back to it”, he wrote.

“Nevertheless, Hammers chairman David Sullivan may well have his doubts around Potter, who feels like an obvious replacement and yet undoubtedly has flaws.”

Hincks could, therefore, be right about the Premier League club being reluctant to admit they were wrong to rope in the Spanish tactician.

Sullivan hoped Lopetegui would take the Irons to great heights after replacing David Moyes with him in the summer.

However, they find themselves playing a brand of football that is not too dissimilar from Moyes’.

Sullivan, though, is hesitant to pull the plug on the former Sevilla boss.

Therefore, Sullivan will soon have to make a decision on Lopetegui.
