David Sullivan sack verdict on Tim Steidten emerges after West Ham United transfer failure

Tim Steidten is not at risk of the sack at West Ham after transfer issues in Brazil, according to Sean Whetstone.

The Six Foot Two editor reported via his West Ham Football Twitter account on 3 June that such claims were a “complete fabrication” as the relationship between the technical director and chairman David Sullivan was strong.

The pair are said to be in contact over 10 times a day as they look to conduct a successful transfer window for incoming manager Julen Lopetegui, and there is no prospect of a departure in the wake of the collapsed move for Flamengo defender Patricio Bruno, or the threat of a similar outcome amid talks for Luis Guilherme.

Whetstone wrote: “Reports that Tim Steidten could face the sack for transfer failures in Brazil are a complete fabrication.

“David Sullivan and Tim Steidten get on very well and communicate by Email or phone ten or more times a day.

“The pair are committed to make this a successful transfer window for the new head coach.”

Fabricio Bruno to West Ham collapse won’t mean Tim Steidten exit

It would be extremely reactionary for Sullivan to be looking to dispense with Steidten’s services at this stage so makes more sense for there to be no plans to do so.

The German has triumphed in what had been termed a power struggle with David Moyes since his arrival a year ago, and appears to have strong backing from the chairman.

So having finally committed to Steidten after a year of clashes behind the scenes it would create chaos to then get rid of the technical director on top of the manager just as the transfer window is about to open.

That said, whatever is causing the deals he is lining up in Brazil to become so difficult needs to be addressed quickly.

It appears West Ham have got the move for teenage Palmeiras attacker Guilherme back on track, with UoL Esporte’s Bruno Andrade reporting on 3 June that documents were now being exchanged to close the deal.

If that transfer is now sealed it would certainly soften the blow of losing out on Bruno, reduce fears that the club are set for a chaotic summer in the transfer market, and help demonstrate a united front at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers could deny a “desperate” manager the chance to sign one of their exit-linked players.
