David Sullivan role changes at West Ham United, board not happy
David Sullivan is taking a leading role in the transfer market at West Ham United after the board became unhappy with the summer business, according to The Sun.
The newspaper reported via its print edition on Tuesday [7 January, pg49] that the Hammers owner will now take charge of the transfer dealings this month after the failings of the summer’s frivolous spending spree.
Tim Steidten is no longer working at Rush Green following a disagreement with Julen Lopetegui, and as per talkSPORT (6 January), he is also facing an uncertain future in East London.
David Sullivan fighting to save West Ham United
Despite the talkSPORT report claiming the Hammers have decided to part ways with Lopetegui, BBC journalist Simon Stone has poured cold water over the speculation (6 January).
However, one certainty remains: Sullivan is seizing back control of West Ham to salvage what remains of the season.
Steidten embarked on a £120million spree throughout the summer, and in retrospect, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s acquisition from Manchester United is the only success story from 10 incomings.
While Carlos Soler has emerged as a key member of the first-team squad in recent weeks, the jury is still out on the Spaniard, and the same can be said for Jean Clair-Todibo, who has been in and out of the side all season.

Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme, meanwhile, have been afforded little opportunity to impress at the London Stadium.
Max Kilman has started every match this season despite the Irons boasting the third-worst defensive record in the Premier League.
Therefore, Steidten cannot be trusted to squander further funds in January with additions desperately needed to improve the fortunes on the pitch.
With no say on transfers and no access to the training ground, it appears only a matter of time before Sullivan shows the German the door in East London.
