David Sullivan bombshell: West Ham chief doesn’t want Graham Potter
David Sullivan doesn’t want Graham Potter to replace Julen Loptegeui at West Ham, says Andy Goldstein.
The Spaniard was sacked on Wednesday (8 January) after a poor first half of the season which has left the Hammers sat in 14th place in the Premier League.
Potter looks set to replace the ex-Real Madrid boss at the London Stadium but it appears that the 49-year-old is not the first-choice option for the Irons’ hierarchy.
Speaking out on this, talkSPORT presenter Goldstein suggested that Sullivan is unconvinced about the former Chelsea boss despite work from Karren Brady.
He said: “My understanding is, this is not official I’ve heard whispers, that Karren Brady was dealing with Potter coming in and they approached him before the new year and he was going to be in charge until the end of the season.
“Of course now we get to the new year and he didn’t want just a four or five-month deal, he wanted a two-and-a-half-year deal. David Sullivan, however, isn’t necessarily, this is my understanding and is not official, convinced that Potter is the right appointment.”
David Sullivan doesn’t want Graham Potter at West Ham
The Englishman certainly represents an upgrade in terms of footballing philosophy for many Hammers supporters after David Moyes’ departure at the end of last season.
The biggest complaint of the successful Scot was that his style of play left a lot to be desired regardless of positive results and Premier League finishes.
When the former Manchester United man departed and Lopetegui came in, it was a surprise that the ex-Wolves man was the chosen option.
It is safe to say that the 58-year-old has not been well-liked during his spell in East London and many will be pleased to see his departure be confirmed.

It is somewhat bizarre to hear that Sullivan doesn’t want Potter at the London Stadium despite how poorly Lopetegui did during his spell.
With that being said, it will be interesting to see how things work out for the former Swansea City boss if the Irons club hierarchy are unsure of him before he even starts.
