David Sullivan between two stops in David Moyes sack update at West Ham United

By Amos Murphy.

West Ham United owner David Sullivan is believed to be between two stops regarding the future of David Moyes and his new contract, as per The Evening Standard.

It comes after the Hammers’ humiliating defeat at home to Arsenal, with the Hammers shipping six goals without reply against their London rivals.

The capital club are now without a win in each of their last seven outings across all competitions, with West Ham’s last victory having come back in late December.

Ironically, that triumph was over Arsenal themselves, but it’s the latest result against the Gunners which could prove to be the final straw for Moyes at West Ham.

The Scottish manager’s contract at the London Stadium is due to expire at the end of the campaign, and despite talk about a renewal, it is said he now faces a “huge test” to turn things around.

Moyes contract talks stalling after shaky West Ham results

The Evening Standard has claimed that Hammers owner Sullivan is now hesitant about giving Moyes’ new deal the green light, because of the current slump in results.

It’s suggested that an agreement on fresh terms would be forthcoming in 2024, but given how Moyes’ side has started the calendar year, the West Ham hierarchy are believed to be having doubts.

Despite leading West Ham to Europa Conference League glory last season, the ex-Everton and Manchester United manager could be running low on credit in the bank.

A concerning aspect of this saga for Moyes is that West Ham are aware of concrete interest in the Hammers hot seat from several high-profile managers.

David Moyes has largely has a successful second spell in charge of West Ham United but things have taken a turn for the worse now.

As reported earlier in the week, the job is considered an attractive opening and if the club did part ways with Moyes at the end of the season, there isn’t expected to be a lack of interest.

All of that could depend on how Moyes and Co. perform in the final half of the 2023/24 campaign, specifically about the Europa League campaign.

Winning the Conference League glossed over an otherwise poor season for West Ham last time out, with it once again looking like Moyes will have to deliver a deep run in Europe to convince Sullivan he’s the right man for the job.
