David Ornstein issues update on West Ham United pursuit of Manchester United defender Harry Maguire
David Ornstein claims that West Ham have seen Manchester United respond to their offer for defender Harry Maguire.
According to the Athletic journalist, the Hammers lodged a £20million bid which was knocked off by the Old Trafford outfit.
It’s understood that David Moyes is very keen on signing the 30-year-old England international this summer.
Via Twitter, Ornstein wrote, “Manchester United reject £20m offer from West Ham to sign Harry Maguire permanently. David Moyes keen on England centre-back but unlikely #WHUFC will push again amid feeling 30yo wants to fight for #MUFC place + salary also an issue.”
Worth another bid?
The Hammers do need a quality centre-back and a leader this summer and Maguire is that player for them.
He may not have had the best of times at Manchester United, but he’s still an immensely talented player.
He proved it at Leicester City and continues to do it time and time again for the England national team as well.

Manchester United are a toxic club and it’s best for him if he gets out of there, especially after being stripped of the captaincy.
He even had to issue a statement and that’s how bad his situation is at Manchester currently so it’s surprising that he wants to fight for his spot at Old Trafford.
Hopefully, another bid is not far away as Moyes appears to be keen on bringing him to London.
In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
