David Moyes: West Ham United have more wrong VAR decisions than any other team in Premier League

David Moyes believes his West Ham side have had terrible luck with VAR, making it hard for him to control his touchline behaviour.

West Ham head to Anfield on Wednesday night and will need all the luck they can get if they are to spring an upset against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

However, Moyes believes luck has eluded his side so far this season, with the Hammers boss insisting his side have had more wrong VAR decisions than any other team in the Premier League.

West Ham

“I wish I could be someone that did. I would like to be someone who is much calmer and in control,” said Moyes, as quoted by Football.london.

“It would be very hard to do that when you put yourself in the position when you see some of the decisions.

“We think by numbers we have had more wrong decisions made by VAR than any other Prem club and those things are why you get more emotion.”

Unlucky

West Ham have endured a very unfortunate start to the season. Moyes decided to keep his new signings under wraps and slowly implement them in his squad, but he was eventually forced to bring them in sooner than he’d want due to the team’s performances.

While everything was going smoothly in the Europa Conference League, things simply weren’t clicking in the Premier League, and VAR decisions definitely didn’t help.

West Ham

There was plenty of bad luck in the losses to Nottingham Forest and Everton earlier on this season, and things could’ve been very different for the Hammers had luck been in their favour.

West Ham currently sit 13th in the table, but are just four points off breaking into the top six. It’s hard to blame Moyes for thinking about what could have been if he had the rub of the green.

But on the flip side, teams make their own luck and West Ham did have some horror performances at the start of the campaign. It’s no coincidence that ‘luck’ has improved parallel to performances. After all, the best way to avoid poor VAR calls is not giving them a decision in the first place.
