David Moyes wants more goals from Jarrod Bowen

West Ham bagged a vital victory at Elland Road on Saturday, securing a 2-1 win to continue their fine start to the 2021-22 Premier League season.

David Moyes was pleased with the result against Leeds United and has praised Jarrod Bowen’s fitness level after he started all of the Hammers’ last three games.

Despite his eye-catching form, the 24-year-old is yet to open his account for the season, with just an assist to his name in eight games across all competitions.

Moyes wants more from him in front of goal, though, and the West Ham boss has challenged him to do better.

When asked by Football.London after the victory about Bowen’s fitness,: “Well if you asked me in pre-season who I thought looked the fittest and in the best condition, [it would be him] he came back a bit lighter than before and was in great nick and came back better than before.

“Jarrod has great energy, he has loads of it, he has bundles of it. We have been asking him to get a couple of goals and he has been a bit unlucky today with the deflection but ultimately we want him to get into goalscoring positions to get the goals, he got some last season and I think he can do better this year.”

Challenge accepted?

Bowen has remained a constant threat and an all-round attacking package despite his recent limited goalscoring abilities, and he will be keen to get better.

He scored eight goals and assisted five others in 38 top-flight games last term after ending his last season at Hull City with 16 goals and seven assists in 29 Championship games.

The Hammers ace surely knows how to find the back of the net, and he is very much up to the task.

With England manager Gareth Southgate running the rule over him [Evening Standard], Bowen needs to start adding the goals to his game this term if he wants to play at the World Cup.

West Ham

Michail Antonio has been saddled with the responsibility of leading the line for West Ham, and he has responded with six goals so far.

Bowen needs to take a leaf out of the striker’s book as he will most likely be playing as a number 9 anytime the Jamaican international is unavailable.
