David Moyes update emerges as West Ham United boss faces renewed calls for the sack after Newcastle United hammering

West Ham are still not looking to sack David Moyes despite the 5-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Wednesday night, The Sun reports.

The Hammers were opened up with embarrassing ease in the midweek thrashing as the game ended with virtually empty stands.

Thanks to the 1-0 win over Southampton on Sunday (2 April) the club remains outside the relegation zone with a game in hand on those around them, although level on points with the three sides below.

But the manner of the defeat at the London Stadium has heaped pressure back on Moyes, although the board haven’t been sparked into action.

It is possible that changes at some point, but at this late stage of the season the latest report says: “SunSport understands there are no plans to change the manager at the moment.”

Damaging

Given how Newcastle are performing this season it was always possible that they would win the game on Wednesday (5 April).

But the manner of the defeat was as damaging to Moyes as the result with all five goals sloppy to say the least, and three of them thanks to completely catastrophic defending.

It is quite plain at this point that the West Ham board don’t want to have to make a change, and there comes a time when it is perhaps too late in the season to do so.

Moyes may just about scrape enough results to stay in the Premier League but he is pushing it very close to the limit, and if he gets it wrong everything that the club have been attempting to build towards during the Scot’s tenure will be thrown away.

Even if the hierarchy were minded to make a change they have arguably waited too long in that nearly all of their fellow strugglers have already made a change and taken a number of options off the market.

Assuming he makes it to the end of the month the games against Bournemouth (23 April) and Crystal Palace (29 April) really couldn’t be more crucial now.
