David Moyes: Tomas Soucek struggled in 2-1 loss v Brentford
West Ham United suffered their second Premier League defeat of the season at the London Stadium to Brentford on Sunday.
A lot of the Hammers players struggled to perform up to expectations, and the Bees ran out deserved 2-1 winners after a last-gasp goal from Yoane Wissa.
The Czech Republic international midfielder Tomas Soucek was all at sea in midfield, unable to cope with the opposition, and David Moyes admitted after the game that he struggled.
The West Ham boss said during his post-match conference (via Football London’s Thomas Clark personal Twitter account): “I think he is fighting for a wee bit of his best form.
“I am hoping the two of them, Tomas and Declan can get goals but, I think Tomas has struggled a wee bit.”
Underwhelming
The international break has come at the right time, and the midfielder really could do with some much-deserved rest.
While he provided the assist for Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser, Soucek should have put West Ham ahead after Declan Rice delivered a perfect cross into the box.
Playing in Europe has added to the Hammers’ fixtures this term, and that seems to have taken its toll on the midfielder.
Czech will be playing Wales and Belarus during this month’s World Cup qualifiers, but that should not stop the Hammers ace from getting some time off.
He is not at fault for the loss to Brentford as the likes of Vladimir Coufal, Angelo Ogbonna and Michail Antonio also struggled to make any influence on the proceedings, and that should change after the break.
West Ham will be looking for another top-six finish this term, and they need to make use of their squad depth and add more legs in January if they want to impress again in 2021-22.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign English sensation with 18 goals/assists in 20/21.
