David Moyes tipped to leave West Ham United then return to London Stadium within months
Chris Sutton has tipped West Ham United to re-hire David Moyes a few months into next season when they are struggling.
The veteran boss is expected to leave the London Stadium at the end of the season when his contract expires, with talks already underway to replace him despite an official decision not being made or communicated yet.
The Hammers let Moyes leave the club back in 2018 to hire Manuel Pellegrini but when the Chilean flopped and was sacked just months later, they brought the Scot back to save them in a relegation battle.
And speaking to BBC Sport (2 May), Sutton predicted for history to repeat itself next season by suggesting the club would go back for Moyes again should a new manager be struggling.
“The more I see and read about David Moyes’ situation at West Ham, the more I am expecting them to shake hands and part company at the end of the season… and then they will bring him back a few months later when they are struggling,” he said.
West Ham United would be crazy to repeat Moyes history
It seems clear that the Hammers are preparing for the exit of Moyes this summer with talks held with other managers, but Moyes isn’t going down without a fight either.
He has banned Tim Steidten from the first-team dressing room and Rush Green with the German the man leading the charge for a replacement, which means the manager clearly feels disrespected by what is going on.
But at the same time the club have to do what is right for them and while a public decision hasn’t been announced, it’s pretty obvious what is happening behind the scenes.

In an ideal world the club will get the appointment correct and there will be no talk of Moyes returning, but should they get it wrong like they did with Pellegrini then the noise and rumours will surely go into overdrive.
However, the board must never go back. Not because it’s Moyes, but because it would defeat the entire principle of this exercise. The fans and club want to move forward with a new style, and Moyes, again, would be a backwards step.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a European “wonderkid” with his club willing to sanction a deal.
