David Moyes: Statue of Moore, Hurst and Peters is terrific

David Moyes believes the statue paying tribute to West Ham legends Bobby Moore, Sir Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters is a great thing done by the club.

The Hammers unveiled the statue on Wednesday to celebrate the club’s three 1966 World Cup winners.

They chose to do it on the eve of their first home European of the season as they’re set to face Rapid Wien on Thursday.

Discussing the statue in the build-up to the game, Football London quoted Moyes as saying, “I think it’s a great thing the club have done.

“The move from Upton Park was always a difficult one but I think the players and everybody at the club are trying to make it as welcoming a place as we can.

“The statue is terrific.”

Nice commemoration

Clubs have statues of iconic players outside their stadiums so it’s good to see the Hammers following suit.

Not only is it a throwback to the glory days, it also drives more people to the stadium a few hours before kick off and it becomes a good occasion to hang out with family and friends.

West Ham

There’s no doubt that visitors coming to the stadium for the first time will certainly want to go and look at the statue.

Also, regular match-goers may also want to grab a picture with the iconic West Ham trio.

The Hammers are an extremely historically driven club and a large proportion of the fanbase is sentimental about moments in the late 60s and 70s.

This is the perfect way to give them something to look at and feel proud of every time they visit the ground.
