David Moyes shares West Ham United transfer update before Friday deadline

David Moyes has shared a West Ham United summer transfer update ahead of the deadline on Friday (1 September).

The Hammers have sold the likes of Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca, bringing in Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Mohammed Kudus.

All of the signings could be in action in claret and blue when West Ham travel to Luton Town in the Premier League on Friday.

“We always had to add some players to the squad, we lost Declan [Rice] and [Manuel] Lanzini,” Moyes said in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the official West Ham website.

“So we’ve sort of done that. I said also that probably players had to move on to create spaces for people to come in.

“You have to get a balance. We don’t want too many players, we want to try and have the right numbers, and at the moment we’re in pretty good shape.”

Successful window?

It’s fair to say that the club’s summer transfer window did not get off to the best start, with club captain and fan favourite Declan Rice leaving the London Stadium for Arsenal.

The only silver lining from his exit was the huge £105million fee that the Hammers received for his services. They may have taken their time, but West Ham have put that money to good use, replacing their former skipper with Alvarez and Ward-Prowse.

The defence and attack have also been strengthened, with Mavropanos bolstering the former and Kudus bolstering the latter.

The Hammers have made a superb start to the new season, defeating both Chelsea and Brighton 3-1 after their opening day 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

But the squad will really only begin to get properly tested when the European action gets underway, with the club set to take part in the Europa League following their Europa Conference League success.
