David Moyes shares latest West Ham injury updates ahead of Sevilla clash

West Ham have suffered a massive injury blow after David Moyes has confirmed that Jarrod Bowen will probably return after the international break.

The Hammers will face Sevilla in their Europa League clash on Thursday (17 March) at the London Stadium, where they trail by 1-0.

Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell both got injured against Aston Villa in their previous game, and they are doubtful against the La Liga outfit.

Moyes said as quoted by Football London: “They have done a little bit of light training. We are trying to find out if they are fit.

“We are trying to give them every opportunity to be fit. But they did not train with the team but they did a little bit with the fitness coaches. We will wait to assess them tomorrow to see how they are.

“Jarrod Bowen is not available and probably won’t be available until at the earliest after the international break.”

Blow

In the 2-1 win against Aston Villa, both Antonio and Cresswell picked up muscle injuries in the second half and they were taken off.

It looks the injuries are not so serious and that it is a touch-and-go situation.

Moyes is hoping that they can play some part in the game, but there’s always a risk to bring in half-fit players in a big game like this.

The Hammers produced a fantastic performance in the weekend where goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Pablo Fornals earned all three points for Moyes’ side.

If Antonio fails to recover, Moyes is likely to use Yarmolenko in the striker role, which is not his natural position but he did really well against Villa.

Losing Cresswell will be a big blow. Ben Johnson is likely to start in the left-back role in his absence while Ryan Fredericks could start at right-back.
