David Moyes shares exciting West Ham transfer plans for January

David Moyes has suggested that West Ham could be looking to add one or two players in the January transfer window.

Ideally, the January market is not the best time to secure your first-choice targets, but the Hammers are looking to make necessary incursions due to injuries.

Moyes has now hinted that along with signing a striker, adding a defender is also a priority. However, it won’t be easy.

“We have picked up a few injuries to defenders so that makes us look a bit differently. We will look to add a forward as we did in the summer but maybe we have to start looking for a defender, nothing is decided yet,” said Moyes as quoted by Football London.

Exciting

West Ham fans will be excited to hear that Moyes is actively thinking about making moves in January rather than taking a wait-and-see approach.

With West Ham fighting for the fourth spot in the Premier League, and aiming to win the Europa League as well, they need to bolster the squad in January.

If the injury to Angelo Ogbonna wasn’t the wake call up, then surely Kurt Zouma’s injury will force them to add a defender. If not two.

The Hammers have been reportedly linked with a move for Liverpool defender Natt Phillips [Evening Standard], while Divock Origi could be of interest to them [ExWHUemployee].

While West Ham will surely be looking at other options, it will represent an astute piece of business if Moyes can land either Phillips or Origi or both of them in January on cut-price deals.

The Liverpool duo are currently struggling to get enough games at the club, and they could be offloaded in January.

Origi, especially, would be a stellar signing for the club. A proven goalscorer with loads of experience, he would provide strong competition to Michail Antonio for the striker role.
