David Moyes sack view shared after West Ham United win v AZ, talkSPORT host completely stunned

Jamie O’Hara was left stunned live on talkSPORT after one West Ham fan called for David Moyes to be sacked at the end of the season.

The verdict came after the Hammers defeated AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in their Europa Conference League semi-final first leg on Thursday (11 May).

West Ham have, however, endured a difficult league campaign, where they sit in 15th place with three games remaining.

“Moyes has got to go,” one West Ham fan said on talkSPORT, with O’Hara replying: “Even if he wins?”

The fan responded: “Yeah he’s got to go,” with O’Hara arguing back: “Hold on, hold on. You’re going to win a trophy for the first time in what, 50 years? A major tournament, and you’re going to get rid of the manager after it, how does that make sense?”

The West Ham fan replied: “Well we’ve had six/seven months of absolute rubbish,” with O’Hara responding: “Yeah but you’re going to win a tournament and you’ve stayed in the Premier League.

“You’re entitled to have a bad season if you’ve won a trophy at the end of it. At the start of the season if David Moyes said to you, ‘we’re going to finish 16th, but we’re going to win a trophy,’ you would have snapped his hand off.

“That’s an unbelievable season for West Ham. This season could be an unbelievable season for West Ham.”

Moyes thriving under pressure

Moyes has been under constant threat in the West Ham dugout this season, with the Hammers really not hitting the heights that many expected, particularly following a couple of strong finishes in the Premier League.

But the man in the dugout has thrived under that pressure, with the club all but securing their safety in the top flight with a handful of matches remaining, with that situation allowing the Hammers to focus the majority of their efforts on the Europa Conference League.

It wasn’t the club’s finest night in Europe against AZ Alkmaar, but fans should still be happy to have come out on top on the night, particularly after going 1-0 down.

West Ham travel to Brentford in league action on Sunday (14 May), with a win against their fellow London outfit certain to clinch their safety for another year.

That would be a massive boost to Moyes, who could then travel to the Netherlands with very very few worries ahead of the second leg clash with AZ Alkmaar.
