David Moyes sack update at West Ham United after another defeat v Brighton

West Ham United manager David Moyes faces a potential “do or die” clash against Aston Villa in the Premier League, despite the board’s current plans not to sack him, according to The Mirror.

The Hammers fell to an ugly and embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday (4 March), which left the club just a single point above the relegation zone with 13 games of the season remaining.

TalkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams reported that the board had no intentions of sacking Moyes (5 March), but The Mirror believe this stance could be altered if the club fall to defeat against Aston Villa at the London Stadium next time out (Sunday 12 March).

The report said: “Moyes still has credit in the bank with a board that does not currently plan to sack him. But for the third time in six weeks, he finds himself in a position where a home defeat in their next league game could see that stance altered.

“If that win looked like a signpost towards a march up the table, Moyes is back to square one with the added challenge of a European tie away to Larnaca to consider before another potentially do-or-die meeting versus Aston Villa on Sunday.”

Boiling point

It seems to be a case of one step forward and two steps back for Moyes this season.

Just as the boo boys were hushed following the 4-0 victory against Nottingham Forest, they were given plenty of reason to make their feelings heard after the utterly dismal display at the weekend.

Yes, the Scottish manager has credit in the bank due to his previous efforts in which he got the club into Europe, but it is clear that he is not getting the most out of his current crop of players. The likes of Lucas Paqueta, Danny Ings and Declan Rice should be enough to steer clear of the drop zone, but they are now well and truly in the relegation dogfight.

The Irons possess an abundance of quality that few other club’s around them in the league table can possess, but you’re never too good to go down, as the saying goes. It is worrying times for West Ham United fans, but even more worrying times for Moyes in his fight to remain in the job.
