David Moyes sack plan emerges at West Ham United as Tim Steitden gets to work

Tim Steidten is drawing up a list of possible replacements for David Moyes as a West Ham sack plan has emerged, according to Sean Whetstone.

Speaking on the Hammers Chat West Ham Forum YouTube channel on Sunday (5 November), the 6foot2 editor said this development doesn’t necessarily mean the Hammers boss isn’t going to get a contract renewal.

But he added that it makes “good business practice” for the Irons to have a contingency plan, with the technical director capable of identifying possible new managers if things don’t work out with the Scotsman moving forward.

“In West Ham, people don’t usually credit other people,” said Whetstone. “Certain people, whether it’s David Sullivan, Karren Brady or Moyes will take credit for themselves.

“It’s very rare and, I’m not going to say more than this, that a senior individual credits someone else, bigs up someone else. We’re seeing a pattern here and that pattern to me says something. I don’t know everything, but that pattern, I’ve seen it before.

“The last thing I’ll say on this is, I’ve been told he is producing a list of possible replacements for manager. That doesn’t mean David Moyes is going to get sacked. It doesn’t mean that he isn’t going to get a renewal. But it’s good business practice to have a contingency list and we should’ve had one last season.

“We’ve got a technical director who can do that, he can create one and then we’ve got a plan B if Moyes throws in the towel, doesn’t get a renewal, if he goes at Christmas because he doesn’t want to work with the transfer market, that’s what we should be doing.”

Smart

It’s the smart thing to do for West Ham to have a backup plan in place to replace Moyes if things don’t work out for him over the next few months.

There has been speculation around the Hammers manager’s position for most of this year, so it’s only right that work should be going on in the background to identify possible replacements.

Whether that information should have become public knowledge is up for debate, but the club can’t afford to be in a position where they don’t have a plan B like last season.

West Ham

After his good work with the Irons over the past few years, Moyes certainly deserves time to get things back on track after a couple of disappointing weeks, but he has to start showing signs that the club is moving forward.

It’s been widely reported that he clashed with Steidten during the summer transfer window, but he must get on the same page as the technical director if he wants to remain at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, Martin Keown has raged at a “criminal” incident involving a Hammers player against Brentford.
