David Moyes reveals what he told Said Benrahma in West Ham draw v Newcastle

West Ham managed a frustrating 1-1 draw against Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday at the London Stadium.

In the second half, Said Benrahma was taken off and Nikola Vlasic replaced him. However, he walked off instead of running.

Moyes was seen shouting at the Algerian international to move on, and it appeared that there was some rift between the pair.

However, the Hammers boss clarified, what he told the player, as quoted by Football London: “Yes, that is what I was asking I said ‘run off’ so we can use our time and get our sub on as quick as we can.”

When asked if there was an issue, he added: “No, none at all I just asked him to run faster and get off the pitch so we could get the sub on fast and use the time at our home stadium to our best advantage.”

Poor effort

It was a poor performance from the Hammers and the result is probably the right reflection of the game.

There was hardly any creativity upfront, although a case can be formed for Benrahma, who appeared to be the only one who was making runs into the box and delivering some good balls.

He made 24 passes compared to just 11 by Jarrod Bowen, and provided three key passes during the game, according to Whoscored.

It is still baffling why was he taken off? He has been substituted 18 times this season, the most by any player in the league.

West Ham

In the first half, he was really impressive, and tried his best before he was taken off.

One can’t help but wonder what’s the agenda here. Michail Antonio has been very poor in his last few games, and he is hardly taken off.

The decision to not buy players in January could haunt the Hammers this season.
