David Moyes responds to ‘strange’ West Ham question

David Moyes admits that he’s “disappointed” with the way things have gone at West Ham United this season.

The Hammers are currently 13th in the Premier League and while they may not seem like an all that bad result, things could have been going a lot better.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live Breakfast in quotes relayed by the BBC Sport website (31 December) the former Hammers boss shared why he’s disappointed with West Ham’s performances this season.

“It’s a strange question [whether he’s happy with West Ham’s performances] – it can sometimes be like that, but I brought in so many of the players there,” he said.

“I’m so loyal to them, from the Czech boys to Jarrod Bowen. So many of them I brought in and I’ve got a great relationship with.

“We had just about got to a period of really good stability at West Ham, so that would be the bit.

“The people who watch football and know will tell you, West Ham have had different difficulties throughout at different times – but I think the last three or four years were really stable.

“Regular in Europe three years in a row, finishing in a decent position in the league. I’m just more disappointed that it’s not quite looking as stable as what it was then”.

Julen Lopetegui has let West Ham United fans down

When the summer transfer window closed, fans and pundits alike expected Julen Lopetegui and his men to at least be challenging for the European spots.

They spent a hefty chunk of change in the summer and while it’s evident that some of the arrivals have made things at the London Stadium better, it still feels like more needs to come from others.

The fact that out of all the possible candidates David Sullivan had to choose from to replace Moyes he chose the Spaniard was questioned by many.

His style of play is very similar to the Scotsman’s and at times, it’s even felt like the former Real Madrid manager has downgraded the Hammers’ overall performance.

At the moment, they’re not involved in a relegation battle but if things don’t turn around soon or if some reinforcement isn’t brought in during the January window, things could start to go south rather quickly, especially with Jarrod Bowen now ruled out.
