David Moyes really wants West Ham United to sign Harry Maguire – Sky Sports
West Ham manager David Moyes “really wants” to bring former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire to the London Stadium this summer, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg.
Plettenberg has taken to Twitter to explain the state of the deal, with no offer yet made as the Red Devils look to offload the England international.
The English centre-back has been out of favour since Erik ten Hag took over at Old Trafford and released a statement on Sunday, July 17 to announce that after conversations with the Dutchman to agree that he would no longer be captain of the club.
Plettenberg is not the first to report that Manchester United are looking to sell Maguire, with those in charge at Old Trafford hoping to be able to shift his substantial wages off of their wage bill. With another two years on his contract they are hopeful that they are able to find a solution this summer.
A step out of the spotlight
It seems glaringly obvious that Maguire needs to move on from Manchester United to breathe new life into his career, for the last few years there has been a spotlight cast over his performances with opposing fans hoping to see him struggle.
While sometimes his displays have warranted criticism, it’s become clear that he isn’t part of ten Hag’s plans going forward so for United it’s as simple as finding a buyer. Moyes’ West Ham side feel like the most sensible solution.

Although the move to Old Trafford probably hasn’t justified the near £80m transfer fee paid to Leicester City in 2019, the defender that was worth that fee and managed to find a place in the Euro 2020 team of the tournament.
Perhaps that step away from a big six club, away from the Champions League and away from that huge transfer fee may allow Maguire to rediscover that form that made him so impressive at the King Power Stadium. If there was any manager who is able to bring the best out of players that others can’t, it would be David Moyes.
