David Moyes has no chance of West Ham United reprieve as new data emerges
David Moyes reportedly has a slim chance of retaining his job as West Ham manager should European football be attained once again.
The Sun reports [22 April] United are holding off from making a decision on Moyes until the end of the season once United’s final position is set.
Should Manchester City win the FA Cup, seventh place would be enough to land a Europa Conference League place for the 2024-25 season.
Given United are currently eighth, albeit the table is skewed by teams playing varying numbers of games, that is not out of the question.
Or at least it is not out of the question until you take a closer look at the Irons’ remaining four Premier League fixtures.
West Ham’s remaining Premier League fixtures
After hosting Liverpool next weekend, West Ham then have away games at Chelsea and Manchester City, sandwiched by the visit of Luton Town.
As pointed out by Opta Analyst on X [22 April], the Hammers have the toughest set of remaining fixtures of any side in the division.
Opta gives West Ham’s remaining fixtures a difficulty rating of 91.1. Next on the list is Brighton and Hove Albion with 90.5.
Assuming United will have to win the majority of those four games, this data suggests Moyes has very little chance of guiding United into Europe.
A strong run to see out the season would go a long way to lifting the gloom, but beating Liverpool or Manchester City just does not look possible.
Chelsea are not the force they once were but remain a top-half team, while Luton are fighting for their lives at the bottom end of the division.
Football is played on grass and not paper, as the saying goes, but this concerning data does not provide much hope for Moyes.
