David Moyes makes West Ham ‘selling mood’ admission amid Said Benrahma exit rumour

David Moyes had admitted that West Ham United are in a “selling mood” more than a “loaning mood” during the January transfer window, amid rumours of a potential exit for Said Benrahma.

The Algerian has been linked with a potential move away from the London Stadium this month, with Moyes even confirming that the Hammers had rejected a loan proposal from Ligue 1 giants Marseille earlier in the week.

While the Irons need to get players off of their books to be able to make new additions during the January window, Moyes has insisted that West Ham are more eager to sell players permanently than temporarily lend them to other clubs this month.

As quoted in the print edition of Mirror Football (20 January, page two) he said: “We said right at the start that we wanted some outs before we had people coming in. Our budget isn’t huge in this window.

“There’s lots of reasons why there’s probably not a lot of signings going on. We probably need to sell to get some players in. If that’s the case we’re probably in a selling mood rather than a loaning mood.”

Selling mood

If West Ham United are in a selling mood, they need to get a move and have to start getting rid of some of this dead wood at the London Stadium. There are plenty of players who should and need to be moved on, but for whatever reason they haven’t been yet.

After 20 days of the transfer window, the Hammers’ only major outgoing has been Thilo Kehrer and the German defender has initially only left on loan, with a view to a permanent deal come the end of the season.

It makes sense that West Ham will be keen to earn what they deem a respectable fee for the players that are now surplus to requirements, but with the end of the window drawing ever closer, they cannot afford to waste too much time waiting.

If they don’t manage to shift the likes of Benrahma sooner rather than later, the Irons are going to miss their opportunity to add to their own squad this month, which could massively dent their chances of having a successful second half of the campaign.
