David Moyes in last-ditch effort to block West Ham United staff exit for Wolves

David Moyes has blocked West Ham United’s under-21 coach Mark Robson’s departure to join Wolves, giving him a role in the Hammers’ first-team staff, according to ExWHUemployee.

Posting on The West Ham Way Patreon (15 August), they claim that new Wolves boss Gary O’Neal was set to take Robson but Moyes approved his promotion, but there remain “a few steps” before the move is official.

Now, West Ham are on the search for a replacement under-21 coach, with former players Steve Potts and Kevin Keen seen as the most suitable choice.

Valued

Mark Robson’s excellent work with the West Ham under-21 side has clearly not gone unnoticed. With Robson tempted away from East London for a senior role at another Premier League side, the Hammers acted quickly to keep the manager.

Or rather, David Moyes acted quickly. The Scotsman did not want to lose the experienced Robson, who has been a first-team coach for the likes of Gillingham and Charlton Athletic, before shifting to academy-level roles.

While last season’s 11th-place finish was a disappointment, Robson helped the under-21s to a second-place finish in the Premier League 2 in 2021/22.

Now, he is set to join the senior side and looks set to play a key role. If Moyes was so keen on retaining his services, he must have him eyed for a significant purpose.

While West Ham’s 1-1 opening day draw to Bournemouth was not the perfect start, the Hammers showed enough to reassure fans. Robson now has the chance to make a direct impact at the Irons navigate an important season.

In other West Ham news, a fresh update has emerged about the Hammers’ links to Harry Maguire.
