David Moyes ‘happy’ prediction shared if West Ham United sign ‘X-factor’ Jesse Lingard

David Moyes will be “happy” if West Ham sign Jesse Lingard this summer, according to The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson.

Jackson noted that the 30-year-old “X-factor” player could provide some “stardust” at the London Stadium this season.

As per Sky Sports (14 August), Lingard has been training with the Hammers, with Jackson noting that the player has also been training with Inter Miami.

“I like the fact he still wants to play in the Premier League rather than with Inter Miami where has been training,” Jackson said on the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast, as quoted by BBC Sport. “He’s not accepting that he cannot play in this league anymore.

“On his day, he can be an X-factor footballer. Maybe he is going to provide a bit of stardust to fool the opposition alongside the more yeoman qualities of someone like Harry Maguire at West Ham.

“If he does go, David Moyes would have to be happy with him, Maguire and James Ward-Prowse.”

Return on the cards?

Lingard might only be training with West Ham to keep his fitness up following the expiry of his contract at Nottingham Forest earlier this summer, but there remains a possibility of the player being offered a short-term deal with the Hammers.

The attacker shone during his loan spell in East London in the second half of the 2020/21 season.

During his temporary spell in claret and blue, the former England international registered superb tallies of nine goals and five assists from his 16 appearances.

Moyes certainly knows the player well from their time together at both West Ham and Manchester United.

The Hammers have left it late this summer to secure new players, with both Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse arriving at the club this month.

The duo could be joined by a couple of further arrivals, one of which might just be ex-Red Devils man Lingard, more than likely on a short-term deal.

In other West Ham news, a BBC pundit was wowed by one Hammers ace in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday (12 August).
