David Moyes family member to be cut loose by West Ham United under Julen Lopetegui

David Moyes’ son will not be kept on as part of Julen Lopetegui’s team at West Ham United, according to Sean Whetstone.

Whetstone shared an update on his West Ham Football account on X [21 May] shortly after news emerged of senior staff member Rob Newman departing.

David Moyes Junior was brought in by his father earlier this year as a scout, as reported by Alan Nixon [10 March], but his stay at London Stadium is short-lived.

Whetstone wrote: “It goes without saying that there is no place for David Moyes Junior in Julen Lopetegui’s and Tim Steidten’s recruitment and scouting team.”

Lopetegui’s appointment as Moyes’ successor is due to be officially announced at some point this week.

David Moyes not alone in departing West Ham United

West Ham are wasting no time in making changes behind the scenes, with Newman’s exit pretty telling as Steidten takes more control of transfer activity.

In truth, it is fair to say David Junior’s departure will hardly send shockwaves around London Stadium. He is said to have been recruited as a scout who would check on targets up close.

At the time, that suggested the older of the Moyes pair was going to sign a new contract, but events quickly turned and the Scotsman has now officially departed.

Whether or not a replacement is needed in the scouting department remains to be seen, but the club are no doubt still working on getting the backroom staff members fully sorted.

All supporters truly want is for some signings to be announced as soon as the transfer window opens. And given it opens in just three weeks’ time, there is not long to wait.
