David Moyes facing selection ‘worry’ ahead of West Ham v Liverpool, he has a problem – Claret and Hugh

David Moyes has a “worry” ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final at Liverpool with several of his West Ham side complaining of fatigue, according to Claret & Hugh.

The Hammers visit Anfield, a venue where Moyes has not won in 20 trips as a manager, on Wednesday (20 December) as they look to book a semi-final berth.

However, Hughie Southon wrote for Claret & Hugh (19 December) that a source shared Moyes is facing a selection problem, with the likes of Thilo Kehrer, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Said Benraham in line to start.

“West Ham boss David Moyes will have problems selecting his starting eleven for the match at Liverpool tomorrow after several Hammers players have complained of fatigue. Claret and Hugh has been told EXCLUSIVELY by a key source that the number of critical games the club is having to play has finally started to tell on the players who have made their position clear,” he wrote.

“The Hammers have won just once in Liverpool in 60 years and for players to be complaining of fatigue before such a game is a worry and leaves the manager with a problem on top of captain Kurt Zouma’s absence given he is incapable of of playing two matches within a few days. Mickey Antonio will also be unavailable of course and the situation will leave the manager looking perhaps at fresher players who have missed the last few games.”

What?!

To paraphrase the great tennis legend John McEnroe, you cannot be serious!

Fatigue?! Really?! Fatigue?! For a quarter-final against Liverpool? And you are genuinely going to claim that fatigue will stop you playing. That should leave Moyes absolutely fuming in all honesty.

As a player, these are the games you should be absolutely chomping at the bit to play, there is an opportunity here to make a semi-final for heavens sake.

Don’t get me wrong, I get that players have to protected, rested, and rotated, especially with the amount of games that West Ham have played this season and before a hectic Christmas schedule.

But those decisions should be left up to the manager, he should be the one to decide who gets rested when. To complain of fatigue before a quarter-final is frankly baffling, these kind of games aren’t that frequent during a career. Anyone in the Hammers squad should be desperate to feature in it.

In other West Hams, Moyes won’t put the “shackles” on one ace who “frustrates the hell” out of him.
