David Moyes did not think Xande Silva was Premier League level

David Moyes reportedly did not think that former West Ham attacker Xande Silva was Premier League level after sanctioning his exit.

The 24-year-old parted ways with the London outfit and joined Nottingham Forest.

According to Claret & Hugh, Moyes was the one who sanctioned his sale while the club were also unconvinced by his performances and believed that his bowel surgery hampered his career.

Good decision

The Hammers may have made a huge loss from his sale, but putting a sell-on clause in the deal at least guarantees them making some money in the future should he suddenly develop and take his game to the next level.

He was never likely to break into the first team, and if at 24 that wasn’t the case, then it was the best decision for the club as well as the player to move away and try getting his career back on track.

Moyes has worked wonders for certain young players, but it seems that Silva was never reaching his full potential under the Scotsman.

West Ham

Silva was highly rated at the club, especially by then under-23s coach Liam Manning, who waxed his lyrical during his initial days as a West Ham player.

Via the club’s official website, he said in 2018, “Xande Silva has done really well. He’s settled in, having been here just over a week now, and his attitude has been terrific.”

Hopefully, he does well in the future and hits the heights people once thought he could at the London Stadium.
