David Moyes delivers verdict on West Ham performance v Watford

West Ham managed a slender 1-0 win against Watford in the Premier League clash on Tuesday night at the London Stadium.

It wasn’t an attractive performance and a deflected goal from Jarrod Bowen made the difference between the two teams.

Moyes was very honest after the game and said that performance needs to improve going forward.

The Hammers boss said as quoted by Football London: “The performance was not great and it wasn’t great on Saturday either and fortunately enough we got two wins from it.

“We will need to improve if we are going to stay where we are and do what we are doing, we are going to have to play much better that is for sure.”

Spot on

Moyes is absolutely spot on here. The performance in the FA Cup clash against Kidderminster wasn’t great and likewise, they were ordinary against Watford as well.

In the first half, the Hammers failed to create enough chances. In fact, they toiled really hard to get a grip on the game.

However, once the goal was scored by Bowen, thanks to a deflection, West Ham finally got better control of the match.

Are they facing problems in breaking down teams?

Apart from Bowen, not a single player looked like they could create some clear-cut chances.

West Ham did improve after Manuel Lanzini came on. The Argentine carried the ball forward and played some smart passes that allowed the game to open up a bit.

The confidence in the team is currently not sky-high as the Hammers lost their previous two games. They have jumped to fourth in the league, and Moyes is spot on that they need to improve to hold on to that position.
