David Moyes delivers injury update on West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell

David Moyes has suggested that West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell is now feeling “okay” after being taken off in the second half.

Raheem Sterling found Gabriel Jesus in the box who did well to glide the ball past Fabianski, but Cresswell produced a fantastic goal-line clearance to deny City taking a 2-0 lead at that point.

It came at the cost of his injury. He collided with the post and was writhing in pain. Soon after, he was taken off.

Evening Standard journalist Jack Rosser has shared on Twitter what Moyes said after the game about Cresswell’s injury.

He wrote: “Moyes says Cresswell is “okay” but that his back is stiff and that he felt a spasm after colliding with the post.”

Cresswell has been in good form this season, and the news comes as a big relief for the fans.

However, the decision to bring Arthur Masuaku ahead of Jarrod Bowen just to provide more protection on the left flank didn’t work out well.

Masuaku was poor against Manchester City. It was from his positional mistake that Riyad Mahrez got himself into an acre of space on the right side in the build-up to the first goal.

The change in set-up also limited Cresswell’s natural attacking movement. Apart from one set-piece delivery just outside the box, he didn’t get enough opportunities to swing in crosses.

West Ham have now lost back-to-back games in the Premier League, but they still remain fourth in the table, on the same points as Arsenal.

Given the form the Hammers are in, there is a feeling that West Ham could have done better against the champions, at least in terms of creating chances.
