West Ham United: David Moyes contract U-turn claim made after loss v Crystal Palace

Journalist James Sharpe has questioned whether the West Ham board will be tempted to withdraw their contract offer to David Moyes after the “atrocious” loss to Crystal Palace.

The Irons were on the end of a 5-2 thrashing against Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday (21 April) in one of the worst team performances of the Moyes era.

The Scotsman is due to be out of contract at the end of the season, but he was offered a new deal earlier this year that he is deliberating over signing.

However, speaking from outside Selhurst Park, via the Mail Sport X account [21 April], Sharpe said: “David Moyes has long insisted there is a contract on the table if he wishes to extend his West Ham stay beyond the summer.

“This defeat makes you wonder how long that contract will be on the table for, and if Karren Brady might accidentally knock it into a fire from a coffee table at the first time of asking.

“This was atrocious from West Ham, and you’re left with a sense of how much further can this team go under Moyes?”

Those who were in the ‘Moyes Out’ camp prior to this London derby now have added ammunition as to why they are correct.

Those in the ‘Moyes In’ camp will now be wondering if they should venture to the dark side after this truly abysmal showing.

Not for the first time this season, the Irons were completely outclassed by a side below them in the table.

It was the type of display, fresh on the back of losing to Bayer Leverkusen, that makes you question if the players are themselves starting to lose interest.

Moyes has so often had European football to act as a safety net, but with United out of the Europa League this term, and with qualification next season out of their hands, that is no longer the case.

If Moyes truly intended to stay on, the contract should have been signed a few months back. Instead, it surely makes sense for both parties to go their own way.
