David Moyes contract extension update emerges from West Ham United after FA Cup exit

West Ham United may have postponed talks with David Moyes over extending his contract at the London Stadium, according to Claret and Hugh.

The outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (17 January) that their sources close to the Hammers have been reluctant to share a date or any details over whether negotiations over a new contract have begun in East London.

This comes after the same sources suggested that the first round of talks would be held in January after the Irons had picked up important wins over Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United over the festive period.

Since that excellent run of form however, West Ham have managed draws against Brighton and Bristol City, before being knocked out of the FA Cup by the Robins in a third round replay on Tuesday (16 January).

The recent poor run of form, injury concerns and the absence of Mohammed Kudus and Nerf Aguerd make it appear as though the Irons will take their time when deciding Moyes’ future.

Take your time

Moyes’ work at the London Stadium is certainly deserving of a new contract. The Scotsman has managed to lift European silverware all while transforming the Hammers from a relegation-threatened team into a consistent top-half side.

That deserves credit and on the face of it, the Scotsman certainly deserves a new deal, but the Hammers do not need to rush into any big decision. His contract runs until the end of the season and therefore doesn’t have to be extended yet.

If this recent indifferent run of form proves to be nothing more than a blip because of the sheer number of injuries in the squad, Moyes can earn a new contract once the Irons stars are back fit and available once again.

However, should the poor form continue, West Ham will be well within their rights to look towards a new manager. Hopefully, he’ll turn it around and earn himself a new contract sooner rather than later.
