David Moyes concerns emerge over Edson Alvarez as Kalvin Phillips seals West Ham United transfer from Manchester City

David Moyes is understood to be concerned over the temperament of Edson Alvarez and may drop him from the West Ham first team.

That’s according to the Mirror’s James Nursery who claims that January signing Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City is in line to take his spot in the eleven.

The Mexican has been a first-team regular for the Hammers this season, making 17 Premier League appearances.

Via Twitter, Nursery wrote: “Expecting Kalvin Phillips’ switch to West Ham to have major impact on Edson Alvarez who is set to find himself on the bench as Moyes has concerns over the midfielder’s temperament following 12 bookings already despite Mexican statistically being a vital player.”

Good move?

Moyes’ stance on player conduct is reinforced by not tolerating temperament issues, as evidenced by concerns over Alvarez’s discipline.

By prioritising discipline and professionalism, Moyes fosters a cohesive team environment focused on success.

Phillips’ decision to leave Manchester City in pursuit of regular playing time aligns perfectly with West Ham’s need for midfield stability and depth.

His arrival bolsters the squad and provides the manager with a reliable option in midfield, potentially elevating the team’s performance.

Furthermore, the England international’s eagerness to join West Ham demonstrates the club’s growing stature and appeal, attracting top talents seeking opportunities for consistent game time and career advancement.

At the start of the season, Alvarez would’ve thought that his place in the eleven was almost a given but that is far from the case now.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made a better transfer offer than Barcelona for an international player in January as Tim Steidten gets the ball rolling.
